The bore expands to a markedly flaring bell of brass, occasionally silver, with a terminal diameter ranging from about 20 cm across on a tenor trombone to about 25 cm on a bass. It features a similar bell taper and tuning in the slide design. It is traditional style, no water key and no tuning slide. Occasionally, trombone bells are made from solid sterling silver. Due to poor record keeping, along with the sale of the company in 1940, experts agreed the sound would probably never be perfectly recreated. The build quality is excellent and of a high standard. This horn is about as clean as you can find, and it's remarkable that a 45 year old trombone has surfaced in this condition. SOLD $3100 Regarded as one of the legendary vintage Conn bass trombones, the Elkhart 62H is well loved for it’s beautiful classic sound, ease of playing and good looks. Used Alexander contrabass trombone in F, instrument is in raw brass and is in excellent condition minus two dings on valve tubing; has 10 3/8" bell with nickel garland around rim, double independent rotor valves with shoulder plate, and extension rod for hand slide. Note the inclusion of the saxes after bassoon for this band work. When he told me that the power supply was no longer being manufactured he tried several other units that had multiple plugs but none fit. Some scientists associate the onset of the shock wave with what some brass players refer to as the sizzle point. (Here is a video showing the emergence of the shock wave.) While talking about decibels, we should mention that spectra are usually shown on a decibel scale. (See What is a decibel? ) This means that one notices easily on the spectrum a harmonic that is say 20 dB weaker than the fundamental, even though it has 10 times less pressure and 100 times less power.

If you find yourself searching for a .500" bore horn that really cuts through a band... the 48H is what you've been after. $1300 with original case. The model 34B has a .522" bore slide, as opposed to its cousin the 36b which is .525".
