However many blues elements, such as the call-and-response format and the use of blue notes, can be traced back to the music of Africa. More importantly, Sandra St Victor(SSV) has been continuously releasing music over the course of the past 15 years. It embraces a number of well-defined subgenres, including Dixieland. Early examples of this feeling can be heard in Henderson band recordings and even more clearly on Armstrong’s Hot Five and Hot Seven recordings of 1926–27—e.g., “ Big Butter and Egg Man, ” In effect, Armstrong taught the whole Henderson band, including the redoubtable tenor saxophonist Coleman Hawkins, how to swing.
